While out walking in Sierra Madre a couple of nights ago, I passed by a senior home care facility called Foothill Home Care. The window was plastered with hand-drawn cards from little kids. My guess is the company must’ve sponsored their soccer team. All the cards were all fairly similar- “Thanks Foothill Home Care!” “We Love You Foothill Home Care!” etc etc. One in particular caught my eye:
Aside from Alex’s ill-placed apostrophe, and fantastic misspelling of the word “people,” it’s the sentiment of the card that really gets me. Even old people. Alex was shocked by this, because where he comes from, when a member of the family reaches the age of 65, they are taken into the yard and shot between the eyes with one of those cattle guns from “No Country For Old Men.”
