According the Wildlife Encounters section of the Bolder, Colorado website, “If you decide to trap a skunk, you must destroy the animal.”

Maybe the Wildlife Department committed a crime and the skunks are evidence.
I think they mean that “DESTROY!!” is a nicer way of saying “kill,” but I don’t know why people think that.
It’s like when a kid asked my 4th grade teacher what “slaughter” meant, and she said it was a nicer way of saying kill. I didn’t believe her then, and I certainly don’t now.
